On this tour you will embark on a magnificent drive through some of the highest mountain passes in the World. The drive ends in Ladakh, the “Abode of Gods”, where you will experience dramatic landscape changes at every turn. The dry high altitude desert is scattered with beautiful monasteries, with the blue waters of the Indus River flowing through. Our tour also includes the charming hill station of Shimla, the summer capital of the “Raj”.
Day 01: Arrive Delhi
Arrive Delhi. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 02: To Shimla
Morning tour of New Delhi. In the evening transfer to Delhi railway station to board the train to Kalka. Overnight in train.
Day 03: Shimla
Arrive Kalka, the foothills, in the morning and change train for Shimla. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 04: Shimla
Full day at leisure. Overnight stay.
Day 05: Manali
Morning drive to Manali and check into your hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 06: Manali Free to explore - the Hadimba Temple, the Tibetan Monastery & the Sulphur springs.
Day 07: Jispa
Drive approx. 7 hours in a jeep, crossing the Rohtang pass (4000 Mts.) and descending sharply into the Lahaul Valley. The landscape changes spectacularly from lush green to stark and barren, typical of an arid high altitude desert. Overnight at Jispa.
Day 08: Sarchu
Drive over the Baralacha Pass (4880 Mts.) to capture the scenic grandeur of snow capped peaks and high altitude lakes. Continue to Sarchu (80 kms). Overnight in Deluxe tents.
Day 09: Leh
Drive along Rupshu plains, the highest inhabited region in the World. You may have a chance to see rare wildlife like the wild horse (Skyang), Ibex and the magnificent Snow Leopard. Pass the second highest motorable pass in the world at Taglang La (5327 Mts.) before the long smooth drive to Leh. Overnight stay.
Day 10: Leh
Visit Leh town and Stok Palace.
Day 11: Leh
Enjoy an excursion to Shey, Thikse and Hemis Monasteries.
Day 12: Delhi
Fly back to Delhi and transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 13: Delhi
Transfer to airport for onward journey.
Season: Mid-July to mid-October. The road to Leh is closed in the remaining months.
Clothes: Daytime-cottons. Evenings - very warm clothing.
The accommodation is first class till the drive where the camps are basic. The Leh hotel is simple but comfortable.
