The 'Land of the Peaceful Thunder Dragon' Bhutan has remained aloof from the rest of the world for centuries. But now it is looking outward and offering a host of attractions to tourists from all around the world. The striking mountains, lush green forests, fertile valleys, ancient ruins, uncorrupted ancient culture, bird life and flowers make it a land of an unforgettable Shangri-La. Take a Tailormade holiday trip to Bhutan nestled in the heart of the great Himalayas, an esoteric delight that captivates and makes your holiday trip the one to be cherished for long…

The Kathmandu Valley is a major place of pilgrimage for Buddhists. Around the city of Kathmandu are ancient Buddhist stupas such as the Great Boudhanath Stupa. The area surrounding the stupa which is known as “Boudha” has over sixty Tibetan Buddhist monasteries. There are many teachers and high lamas, either living in Boudha or visiting.

In the hills nearby Boudha, Phullahari Monastery, the seat of HE Jamgon Kongrul Rinpoche is located.

In the area of Swayambunath, is the Swayambunath Stupa, also known as “The Monkey Temple”. Among the many places of pilgrimage is Namo Buddha, one of the most important, where, in a previous life as a prince, the Buddha gave his body to a starving tigress and her cubs. At Namo Buddha, Thrangu Rinpoche has a temple, school for young monks and other projects.

Although there have been many problems here due to the war with the Maoists, it is safe in the Kathmandu Valley and many other places. Many people have gone trekking with no problems. Since the takeover of the King, the situation in the Kathmandu Valley and some other places has been significantly better. There has been no transportation strikes since February 1, 2005. Before this they were a constant problem.

Tibet is magical and mysterious. Travelling overland from Lhasa to Kathmandu is an incredible journey in which you can see the world's highest mountains with vast breath-taking panoramas, travel on the world's highest plains, meet nomadic Tibetan pilgrims, and walk amidst the burning butter lamps and chanting monks of Tibet's ancient and legendary Buddhist monasteries. A visit to this land is a much rewarding holiday experience. While travelling in Tibet, you should not have high expectation regarding the accommodation and the services.
